My Faith In Society Is Restored With New Armand Hammer Album

Album of the Year rumors:

billy woods and Armand Hammer albums are in the running.

I can’t help but think my faith in society has been restored just a bit.

Because the “art rappers” billy woods and E L U C I D…

(I’m not sure if they consider themselves “art rappers”)…

Passionately inject some much-needed poetry into American society.

Their work is dense. You need to sit down and read the lyrics…

A far cry from what’s playing on the radio.

But Armand Hammer keeps coming up in rap conversations again and again…

They’re hyped as having one of the best runs in rap right now.

And they’re talking about critical issues, relevant to the here and now…

As a good poet does, of course.

Their new album We Buy Diabetic Test Strips is a nod to the realities of many unhealthy Americans.

Streets are full of “we buy diabetic test strips” posters…

A capitalist play to ensure someone makes a buck off disease and misery.

The bottom line:

Folks who can’t afford to pay their bills… sell their life-saving diabetic supplies like test strips…

Middlemen buy the test strips…

Then sell them to other people who need them.

But that’s not all this new album is about.

You need to sit down with the lyrics to give them the care and attention they need…

Because these rappers (or dare I say, poets) weave abstract concepts with gritty street life…

As well as every day references that anyone can get.

Musically, they have an experimental feel.

Another reason why I’m surprised they’re gaining so much popularity.

Depth in both lyrics and music - what is going on America?

Are you finally coming around?

Art rap is actually a good title for the sound.

Poetic avant-garde… popular enough to potentially reach the mainstream?

Hard to believe.

The new album We Buy Diabetic Test Strips drops on Friday, September 29th…

With a more experimental sound than ever before.

The anticipation feels similar to 2012 when Kendrick dropped Good Kid, M.A.A.D City.

Just has that vibe. I think this story of hip-hop is about to get epic.
